A very special shout-out to both the One Room Challenge ™ for hosting such an inspiring event, and Better Homes and Gardens who is the Official Media Sponsor.  This season, they will be selecting two guest participants to be part of the 'Featured Designers' for the Spring of 2019!  Boy - do they have their work cut of for them as the guest participants have done some amazing work!  I encourage you to check out all of the Featured Designers as well as all of the guest participants!

Builder basic blah...

Let's just say I am not sad that I won't be seeing this bathroom anymore. This 'builder basic' bathroom is long gone.
Before we take a look, I wanted to thank my photographer, Ruth Skiffington with Ruth Skiffington Photography for taking all of the final photos! Not only is Ruth one of the nicest and kindest people I know, her talent is the bomb!

Sources will be listed under each photo for your convenience. Note: Some of the links below are affiliate links, which means if you click and make a purchase, (at no additional cost to you) I may earn a tiny commission.

The Reveal of the Masculine Bathroom

Say hello to our new masculine bathroom!

Masculine Bathroom

From start to finish

In this video, you're going to see the true me.  What do I mean by that?  I knew I was having this filmed yet while filming the demo day, I'm not wearing a stitch of make-up and my hair....well let's just say that you'll see.  Oh boy...that is a total shot of reality there!  You'll also get a glimpse of the Mr. assisting with the demo.  I'm just thankful there is no butt-crack showing (and there almost was)!  Here is the entire space being transformed (#nojudging).

A very big thank you to Vivia Digital Films for putting this together for me!

I wanted the vanity area to be clean and crisp.  I'm loving the vanity color (Benjamin Moore Blue Note) with the crisp white quartz.

Color

I had the walls (and the ceiling) painted Benjamin Moore Horizon.  As I posted in week 5 of this challenge, I really struggled with what color to paint the ceiling.  You can read all about that here.  I am happy to report that I do love the ceiling colour!

I wanted to take a moment to thank my painter, Fitim with Euro Brother's Painting, as he donated the paint and the labor to paint this bathroom.  Fitim is my number one painter who I absolutely adore!  While we have great laughs (and both have a warped sense of humour), what is important for me is that he gets the job done right, on time, and on budget with my other renovation projects.

Hardware

Cabinet Hardware

This is the same hardware that I chose for our basement bar area. I love the little touch of chrome.

Lighting

Masculine Bathroom

Pendant Lighting

What really drew me to these pendants were 3 things:

  1. The shape.  I love how it plays with the shape of the shower tile.
  2. There is no glass (other than the light bulb) which means no dusting! Hello - that is a no-brainer!
  3. The mixture of the black and the chrome metals. Since we have chrome throughout our home, and I was introducing the black matte, I was super happy to see both of these metals in the lighting. Now that's what I call a win!

I also had some additional lighting added to this space.  There was a pot light installed in the shower area as well as under cabinet lighting on the floating vanity.

Not the best photo taken by moi.

In addition, I had my favorite switches installed.  The adorne® collection by Legrand are my go-to switches when possible!  We used these same switches for our basement development as well.  One dimmer is for the pendant lights, and the other dimmer is for the pot light in the shower and the undercabinet lighting for the vanity.  The timer switch is for the bathroom fan.

I very special shout out to 4 Star Electric who donated their labor and some product for this challenge.  They are one of my trusted trades that I use on my renovation projects that I run.  They continue to win the Consumer Choice Award in Business Excellence year after year.  See why I love them???

The Toilet

If you have followed my journey with this six-week One Room Challenge™ you will know that the Mr. accidentally threw out our perfectly good Toto Toilet.  Well my friends, we now have a new toilet - the amazing American Standard ActiClean Toilet that is self-cleaning.  Yes - you read that correctly!  With the push of a button, we can have this bad-boy cleaned weekly (with the Quick Clean) OR we can have a deep clean done every month (using the Deep Clean option).  You have no idea how excited I am to try out this toilet (well - not really try it out in that sense).  I'm looking forward to trying out the self-cleaning part! I will update you all on my thoughts on this toilet.  I sense a little saucy blog coming about this toilet!

Floor Tile

Floors

I have had SO many people ask me about the tile floor and the floor heat vent.  First of all, the floor was donated by Deerfoot Carpet and Flooring.  I can not thank them enough! Deerfoot Carpet and Flooring is a store that I use consistently with my other renovation projects.  I always get a very warm welcome and someone is always willing to help me.

For the floor vent, I meet this wonderful Canadian company last year at the Kitchen and Bath Show.  If you are going to be doing tile floors, and don't want that ugly look of a plastic or metal floor vent, then the Aria vent is for you!  I used the OG Collection in my bathroom. I really encourage you to check them out as they also have drywall vent options that are really slick!

The Mr. and I made this towel holder.  I'll be sharing in a future blog how we made it, how we attached it to the wall so it won't come off easily, and the reasoning of why I chose the materials I chose.

If you follow my blog, you know that I can be a little bit saucy.  If you know my family, then you'll also know that my son has a sense of humor like moi!  When I saw this art, created by a Canadian artist, I knew it was the perfect fit for this masculine bathroom!

The Rest

My Team

As we all know, there is no 'I' in 'TEAM'.  I would be remiss if I did not mention my team and all of the hard work they did to complete this project for me.   Although they are last to be mentioned, they are always first on my list.  They bring my designs to life and without them, none of this would be possible!

One Room Challenge ™ Spring 2019

As you may be aware, the One Room Challenge ™ is held twice a year (in the fall and in the spring).  While we are months away from the next challenge starting, if you are interested in having me look after one room for you, please let me know! While the event runs six weeks, there is clearly a lot of planning that needs to take place and work done prior to the event starting.

It does not need to be a full renovation either!  It can be a re-design (decorating) of a space.  Perhaps you have a dining room that needs a refresh?  A powder room that needs a facelift?  A home office that needs to look like one?  The sky is the limit.  All you need to know is that we would only have six weeks, your budget needs to be 'reasonable', and you would need to hand over the reins to me to get it all done.  Anyone up for the Spring challenge?
