I wrote a blog post five years ago about white kitchens and thought it was time to update it a bit. After five years, kitchens that are white are still popular!
In 2015, I was part of our local home and design show. There was a kitchen cabinet company (which shall remain nameless) that was located directly across from me. As I love to people watch and my next appointment hadn't arrived, I observed how the kitchen cabinet company was interacting with potential new clients. It was during this time that I heard one of the sales men say, "Those designers - all they want to do is put in white kitchens. They are so boring."
Kitchens that are white are still hot today.
I'm here to tell you, in my honest opinion, that white kitchens are not boring. I have designed a number of white kitchens in my time.
Here are my top 3 reasons why kitchens that are white are still hot!
Kitchens that are white: Decorate with any colour
If you were to install a white kitchen, you are really creating a foundation to decorate around any colour possible!

This kitchen, designed by my friend Carla Aston, used a gorgeous blue backsplash tile. In addition, you can see from the styling that it will be easy for Carla's client to add in a number of different accent colours throughout the years. How pretty do the sunflowers and tulips looks against the blue tile?
This kitchen, designed by my other good friend, Laura Muller, is all white. While the yellow lemons and green apples draw your eye, you can also see how softer colours (like the gorgeous hydrangeas) look against white.
Are you able to see that adding ANY colour as accents will be easy to do, for many years to come, with a white kitchen?
Kitchens that are white: Timeless
White kitchens, in my opinion, are timeless. I've see the dark brown espresso cabinets come and go and grey is here but won't stay. White on the other hand? Timeless! Don't believe me?

Any guesses as to when this kitchen was installed? Maria had her kitchen installed in 2013! Yes - this was installed 7 years ago.
The above image is my own home. I didn't bother to style it prior to me taking this photo today. I wanted to show you what it looks like as we live and all work from home.
We built our home in 2002 and fully renovated our main floor and second story in 2015. That is five years ago. I still love being able to decorate around white with any colour.
I'm in the process of sourcing some different stools and looking at changing out the OTR (over the range microwave). A couple of simple changes that won't break the bank but will be nice to change out and freshen up the space.
Kitchens that are white: Always fresh
This beautiful home, designed by another good friend Emily Clark, is so fresh! I'm not sure about you, but when I look at a white kitchen I think of fresh and clean. Nothing says fresh more than white.
Think of hotel rooms that have crisp white bed sheets with a splash of colour. Hotels know what they're doing when they use white bedsheets.

After the home and design show, I visited 5 homes that set up consultations with me to go over their kitchens. Guess what? They all wanted white! Guess what?
I was ecstatic!
